Moonarie

A rock climber’s guide to Moonarie and the Ikara-Flinders Ranges, South Australia

Moonarie Guidebook

Rob and Josef started writing the Moonarie guidebook in 2014 with the intention of creating a comprehensive, user-friendly guide to the amazing climbing at Moonarie. Moonarie is located in Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park, about 5 hours drive north of Adelaide in South Australia.

The 2019 edition guidebook includes aerial photography, high-resolution colour images and clear maps and topography. Other areas of interest to climbers include Point Bonney, Devil’s Peak and Warren Gorge are also covered,. The guidebook aims to make the region more accessible and enjoyable to visit no matter your level of climbing.

Rob and Josef hope you enjoy your visit to Moonarie.  It is an incredible privilege to climb at Moonarie so please respect and appreciate the environment and the land of the Adnyamathanha people and leave no trace of your visit.

Rob Baker

Rob Baker has been climbing for more than 22 years on rock, ice and mountains in Australia and around the world. Originally from South Australia, Rob began climbing at Arapiles, Moonarie and around Adelaide and was immediately drawn in by the climbing and the magical cliffs at Moonarie. Extensive climbing and developing of new routes eventually led to taking on the task of writing the next guidebook for Moonarie. As an engineer and climbing guide, Rob continues to pursue his passion for climbing and adventures around the world.

Josef Goding

Josef Goding has been climbing for 28 years around Australia and overseas. An early job working at heights (he was initially terrified!) prompted a move to climbing to overcome these fears. Climbing taught him a respectful confidence and ability to perform well under stress. Josef has been a contributor to various guidebooks (Mt Buffalo 2008, Sublime Climbs 2011 and a mini-guide to Dreamtime Wall in the Grampians, where he spends many of his weekends). The guidebook work has ignited a keen passion for photography. His day job is as a 3D designer for various building works. Melbourne born and bred, Josef is a keen new route developer, but his next adventure is family focused, with twins born in early 2019.

Testimonials

We love to receive feedback and comments about the guidebook
My copy of the guide arrived earlier this week. It looks awesome! Even though I knew in advance the content, the quality of reproduction in the book was brilliant and better than I could have hoped. Well done!

How can I ever thank Josef Goding for giving birth to the most magnificent Moonarie guidebook. I have received an early version and already read it cover to cover. The pictures are spectacular with a great mix of old and new, including my favourite, Goblin Mischief. OMG! What a masterpiece. Thanks a million times to you and Rob Baker.

I just wanted to say thanks for the amazing guidebook. Since its arrival a few days ago my friends and I have been drooling over Moon town and putting way too much thought into when we’re gonna be able to make it there. You’ve done a fantastic job.
