Tragedy, Sadness and Healing

The tragic circumstances of Simon and Mike’s deaths at Moonarie in August 2019 had a big impact on the the families and friends of Simon and Mike, the climbing community and significantly the Adnyamathana Traditional owners of Moonarie. Jim McLean from Bushwalking SA has written a beautiful piece describing the tragedy, sadness, healing and the coming together of Australians to heal and understand each other.

Adnyamathanya Healing Ceremony

We were extremely privileged to attend a healing ceremony on the weekend conducted by the Adnyamathanya traditional owners at Moonarie to honour Michael and Simon and heal the land.  I don’t really have the words to describe it but what was clear was their overwhelming connection to the land and heartfelt sorrow for the fallen climbers. Vince and Terrence led a beautiful ceremony and provided a lot of insights into… Read More »Adnyamathanya Healing Ceremony

The clarity of the… Read More »Moonarie Musings by Rob Knott

What makes Moonarie Special by Nick Neagle

I asked a few climbers this question last Saturday and the consensus reply was “Solitude”. One person mentioned climbing on the rim. This started as the Pound rim, but could extend to the rim of the arid interior or the rim of comfort. This is certainly an important component to me. Moonarie requires effort and commitment. From the walk up each day to the psyche needed for long hard pitches… Read More »What makes Moonarie Special by Nick Neagle

Reminder About Responsible Behaviour at Moonarie

Easter 2019 was probably the most popular weekend ever recorded at Moonarie. With the recent release of the new Moonarie guidebook and the Grampians closures, attendance was at an all-time high. By all accounts everyone had a smashing time and got some great climbing in. It was great to see some old and new faces up there. As demonstrated by the recent Grampians bans, access to climbing areas is fragile.… Read More »Reminder About Responsible Behaviour at Moonarie
